2012 Barrian Cup Win for Gwynfa

Gwynfa has won the Barrian Cup for the first time ever. A consistent performance saw us sneak past the post by a single point with a score of 87 from our five prints despite not (quite) scoring a 20. Next up were Tenby and Aberdare (on 86 points), Barry, Merthyr, Inn Focus and Rhondda (on 85 points) and Cardiff and Newport (on 84). A total of 24 clubs participated and a large audience enjoyed not only the photographs but also the top class judging by Margaret Salisbury MFIAP FRPS APAGB FPIP. Margaret (aka ‘The Dragon’), who has visited and spoken to Gwynfa a few times, was knowledgeable, insightful, forthright, occasionally irreverent and highly entertaining.

Our individual scores were as follows: ‘Yellow Dung Fly‘ by Bob Beynon (18), ‘Skogafoss Reflected‘ by Leigh Woolford (17), ‘Mug Shot‘ by Terry Donnelly (16), ‘Juvenile Kingfisher‘ by Alec Stewart (17) and ‘Bible Reading‘ by Margot Rowlands (19). The judge particularly liked ‘Bible Reading’ by Margot citing it as her favourite of the entire competition (despite dropping a mark off for a blown highlight on the edge of the book pages). The individual award for Best Landscape/Seascape went to Brian Merry of the Rhondda Club for his print entitled ‘Raw Power’. Well done to everyone who had a photograph selected to represent the club. Thanks to Barry Camera Club for organising a great day!
